Fracture Repair, the proceedings of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2007 Research Symposium "Fracture Repair: Challenges and Opportunities," was published in February 2008 as a supplement to the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. The symposium was partly funded by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.

The proceedings include papers on the following subjects:

  • tissue response and cellular recruitment after skeletal injury
  • cellular signaling during bone formation and repair
  • emerging technologies in fracture repair
  • critical issues in translational and clinical research for the study of new technologies to enhance bone repair

Annual AAOS research symposia allow leaders in the field to address the present state of the field and emerging areas that could have an impact on it; to develop a consensus on future directions in new areas of cooperative research; and to develop strategies for the rapid translation of basic research into patient care.
