Welcome to the NIAMS Intramural Research Program (IRP)!

Researchers in the IRP tackle problems related to immunology, inflammation, genetics, structural biology, developmental biology, biophysics, and the musculoskeletal system. We try to understand normal function, decipher how things go awry in disease and devise new therapies. NIAMS has had a long history of success in these areas and we are excited about the ongoing investigations presently being pursued by our cadre of outstanding scientists and clinicians. Recent reorganization and additions to our program, as well as some exciting scientific breakthroughs, have reinvigorated our clinical research program. We look forward to making great strides in taking our research from the bench to the bedside, and back again.

In addition, NIAMS IRP has a long history of mentoring and support of fellows and students across the spectrum, from basic biology to clinical trials. Through the use of various programs (Summer Students, Post-bacs, Graduate and Medical Students, Postdoctoral IRTAs, and Clinical Fellows), we continue to focus on training the next generation of scientists at all levels. We stand committed to maintain this tradition.
